Malathion

2010
[Extract] The organophosphorous compound malathion (diethyl (dimethoxy thiophosphorylthio) succinate or S-[1,2-di(ethoxycarhonyl)ethyll O,O-dimethyl-phosphorothioate)is a yellow to deep-brown liquid with an odor of garlic which has a spectrum of activity such that it is a suitable acaricide and pediculicide.

Malathion carboxylesterase titer and its relationship to malathion toxicity

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1979
Abstract The titer of malathion carboxylesterase in liver and sera of rats, three strains of mice, and five groups of pretreated mice was correlated with the malathion LD50 values measured in these groups. The equation of a regression line relating enzyme titer to toxicity was used to predict the median lethal dosage of purified malathion to humans ...

Accidental Malathion Poisoning

Archives of Neurology, 1966
THERE are many reports of accidental poisonings with the long-acting anticholinesterase alkyl phosphate insecticides. 1-4 Malathion, the O,O-dimethyldithiophosphate of diethylmercaptosuccinate, has been less involved in such accidents. 5-10 Experimental and clinical studies indicate that malathion is less toxic to mammals, including man, while it ...

Dimethylphosphorothioates

Archives of Toxicology, 1982
Five dimethylphosphorothioates were tested for their toxicity to rats, potentiation of malathion toxicity in rats, inhibition of carboxylesterase in vitro, and reaction with malathion in vitro. The compounds were: potassium salts of (CH3S)2P(O)O-(I), (CH3O)(CH3S)P(O)S-(II), (CH3O)2P(O)S-(III), (CH3O)2P(S)S-(IV), and (CH3O)(CH3S)P(O)O-(V).

Biodegradation of Malathion

Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division, 1967
Laboratory studies using bench-scale activated sludge units and a Warburg respirometer show that an aerated aqueous microbial system can rapidly remove the organo-phosphate insecticide, Malathion, from solution and that the major mechanism of removal is microbial action.
