Fertility and Sterility, 1977
Over the past 25 years the association of varicocele with male subfertility has been repeatedly demonstrated and the beneficial effect of varicocele ligation in infertile men with oligoasthenospermia has been documented. Since the precise mechanisms by which a varicocele affects spermatogenesis are still unclear, the proper approach to the management ...

Male adolescent fertility preservation
Fertility and Sterility, 2016Until the 1960s, few adolescents and young adults (AYAs) survived their initial cancer diagnoses. Now, ∼12,400 AYA patients are diagnosed with cancer each year, and almost 80% will now achieve a long-term cure. This dramatic improvement in survival is primarily due to multimodal treatments and combined chemotherapeutic regimens.

SummaryIn the last decades, several studies evidenced a decrease in male fertility in developed countries. Although the aetiology of this trend in male reproductive health remains a matter of debate, environmental compounds that predispose to weight gain, namely obesogens, are appointed as contributors because of their action as endocrine disruptors ...

The increasing incidence of cancer among the reproductive population, especially Hodgkin's disease (HD) and testicular cancer, has been paralleled by a substantial improvement in survival rates. In addition to survival and recurrence rates, preserving future fertility and subsequent offspring welfare have become a main focus of modern treatment ...

Male fertility: psychiatric considerations
Fertility and Sterility, 2012To examine: 1) current knowledge on normal biologic variation of seminal parameters; 2) how stress and psychological factors affect sperm quality in fertile and infertile males; and 3) how mental illness and psychopharmacologic agents can affect male fertility.English-language Medline, Embase, and Psycinfo were searched for relevant publications (from ...

Serum estradiol (E2) levels were measured in 451 men attending an infertility clinic and 80 fertile men attending for vasectomy. The normal range of E2 levels found in fertile men was 70 to 200 pmol/l. Subfertile men had lower mean E2 levels than fertile men (P less than 0.05), but there was no relationship to obesity, cigarette smoking, age, or the ...

Kisspeptins, Estrogens and Male Fertility
Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2016The control of male fertility requires accurate endocrine, paracrine and autocrine communications along the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad (HPG) axis. In this respect, the possible interplay between upcoming/classical modulators of reproductive functions deserves attention in that may be a successful tool for the future exploitation of new potential ...

Around 50% of all occurrences of infertility are attributable to the male factor, which is a significant global public health concern. There are numerous circumstances that might interfere with spermatogenesis and cause the body to produce abnormal sperm.

Male Hyperprolactinemia: Effects on Fertility
Fertility and Sterility, 1979Male hyperprolactinemia was detected in 4% (7 of 171) of infertile men. In seven patients with excessive serum prolactin concentrations, the clinical manifestations were infertility, hypogonadism, impotence, and galactorrhea and the etiologic factors were pituitary adenoma, hypothalamic dysfunction, drug use, and idiopathic.
