Endogenous tassel-specific small RNAs-mediated RNA interference enables a novel glyphosate-inducible male sterility system for commercial production of hybrid seed in Zea mays L. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Hybrid crops produce higher yields than their inbred parents due to heterosis. For high purity of hybrid seeds, it is critical to eliminate self-pollination.

Vector-borne disease outbreak control via instant releases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper is devoted to the study of optimal release strategies to control vector-borne diseases, such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya and malaria. Two techniques are considered: the sterile insect one (SIT), which consists in releasing sterilized males among wild vectors in order to perturb their reproduction, and the Wolbachia one (presently used ...

Magnetic Field‐Assisted Conductive Nerve Guidance Conduit Enabling Peripheral Nerve Regeneration with Wireless Electrical Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a conductive nerve guidance conduit integrated with wireless electrical stimulation through alternating magnetic fields, which induces currents and creates a supportive microenvironment for nerve regeneration. In vivo studies show that this approach significantly enhanced myelin restoration, gastrocnemius muscle regeneration ...

Identification of the First Nuclear Male Sterility Gene (Male‐sterile 9) in Sorghum

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, 2019
Core Ideas The male‐sterile 9 (ms9) is a novel nuclear male‐sterile mutant in sorghum. The Ms9 gene encodes a PHD‐finger transcription factor critical for pollen development.

Efficacy of the Sterile Insect Technique in the presence of inaccessible areas: A study using two-patch models [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences, pp.109290
The Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is one of the sustainable strategies for the control of disease vectors, which consists of releasing sterilized males that will mate with the wild females, resulting in a reduction and, eventually a local elimination, of the wild population.

Pickering Emulsion for Enhanced Viability of Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria and Combined Delivery of Agrochemicals and Biologics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cellulosic emulsions as multi‐cargo agriculture formulations. Pickering emulsions stabilized by cellulose acetate particles provide an effective platform for delivering a range of agricultural cargoes, including plant growth‐promoting bacteria and agrochemicals.

Proposal of updated XYZ system for the production of hybrid wheat seed

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2019
The following updates have been proposed for the XYZ system for the production of hybrid wheat: The waxy characteristics of the grain were used as a classifying mark.

Analysis of the "Rolling carpet" strategy to eradicate an invasive species [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In order to prevent the propagation of human diseases transmitted by mosquitoes (such as dengue or zika), one possible solution is to act directly on the mosquito population. In this work, we consider an invasive species (the mosquitoes) and we study two strategies to eradicate the population in the whole space by a local intervention.

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Identification of no pollen 1 provides a candidate gene for heterosis utilization in foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.)

open access: yesCrop Journal, 2021
Male sterility is a common biological phenomenon in plant kingdom and has been used to generate male-sterile lines, which are important genetic resources for commercial hybrid seed production. Although increasing numbers of male-sterility genes have been
