Paclobutrazol and maleic hydrazide-induced growth inhibition in warm season turfgrasses through structural and physiological differences

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science, 2023
Warm season turfgrasses are fast growing and require frequent mowing, which increases maintenance cost. Various plant growth retardants are used to reduce the growth and required amount of mowing of turfgrasses.

EdU-Based Step-by-Step Method for the Detection of Sister Chromatid Exchanges for Application in Plant Genotoxicity Assessment

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
This study is an example of using 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU) for detecting sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) at chromosomal level. Here we report a detailed protocol for differential labeling sister chromatids in barley (Hordeum vulgare, 2n = 14 ...

Ethylene Inhibits Sprouting of Onion Bulbs during Long-term Storage

open access: yesHortScience, 2022
The protrusion of sprouts is a major cause of loss of dry onions (Allium cepa L.) during extended storage. Sprouting is conventionally suppressed by treating onions with maleic hydrazide (MH) before harvest.

The effect of maleic hydrazide on growth and mutation of a blue-green alga [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Maleic hydrazide is mutagenic to the blue-green alga Anacystis nidulans at pH 5.0, producing mutations to streptomycin-resistance and penicillin-resistance, and is non-mutagenic at pH 8.0, promoting growth in low concentrations.
