[Biliary endoprosthesis using metallic stents in management of malignant biliary strictures].
Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 1997Metallic stents were placed percutaneous-transhepaticaly in 65 patients for palliation of malignant biliary obstruction. Fifty-five patients were managed without jaundice 1-12 months (median, 6.8 months) after stent placement. Ten patients had recurrent jaundice due to ingrowth of tumor through the stents.

South African Gastroenterology Review, 2004Endoscopic stenting of malignant biliary strictures offers a relatively safe and cost effective treatment for unresectable malignancies. Jaundice and pruritis can be relieved and this is accompanied by an improved quality of life. The main problem with endoscopic stents is their tendency to block with time.
