Malignant Tumors of the Stomach
Surgical Clinics of North America, 1986A variety of malignancies may arise from the stomach, but the vast majority are adenocarcinomas. Despite a steady decline in the incidence of gastric carcinomas in the United States over the last 50 years, the overall prognosis remains dismal. Adrenal tumors, apart from neuroblastoma, are relatively rare in infancy and childhood. Most adrenal lesions are benign, and both benign and malignant tumors may be hormonally active thus, making accurate preoperative diagnosis difficult. The two main malignant tumors are adrenocortical carcinoma and pheochromocytoma.

Malignant bone tumors represent a small percentage of cancers nationwide and also are much less common than malignant soft-tissue tumors. The rarity of the condition makes it imperative that orthopaedic surgeons in nononcologic practices are able to recognize the symptoms that suggest a possible bony malignancy to avoid inappropriate or delayed ...

The most common pediatric orbital malignancy in the developed countries is rhabdomyosarcoma. In the developing world, however, the most common orbital malignancies in the pediatric group are not primary malignant tumors, but rather secondary and metastatic lesions, such as retinoblastoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, leukemia, and neuroblastoma.

Immunocytochemistry and electron microscopy have allowed more precise identification and classification of neoplasms formerly considered as representatives of other groups. The malignant rhabdoid tumor is one example. Principally neoplasms of the kidney, rhabdoid tumors present uncommonly in the head and neck, where because of the age of the patients ...

Clinics in Liver Disease, 2002
Primary malignant liver tumors can arise from different components of the liver, such as hepatocytes, bile duct epithelium, neuroendocrine cells, and mesenchymal cells. A specific diagnosis frequently can be suggested from imaging studies, but biopsy remains the gold standard for definitive diagnosis of liver tumors.

A review of malignant Brenner tumors reported in the literature reveals widespread confusion over diagnosis and many cases that are not valid. The reasons for this are discussed. Newly defined diagnostic criteria are suggested and illustrated by a case report.

Malignant rhabdoid tumor (MRT) was originally described by Haas et al. in 1981 as an aggressive childhood renal tumor that was believed to represent a rhabdomyosarcomatous variant of Wilms tumor (or nephroblastoma). MRT was later recognized as a separate entity, and extrarenal rhabdoid tumors occurring in various sites such as the brain (atypical ...
