Monograph: Acute Toxicity, Phytochemical Analysis and Ethnomedicinal Study of Aqueous (Leaf and Stem Back) Extracts of three Ethnomedicinal plants (Macaranga hurifolia, Mareya micrantha, and Mallotus oppositifolius) from Ivorian Pharmacopoeia on Rats

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2023
Macaranga hurifolia (ZG02), Mallotus oppositifolius (ZG04), and Mareya micrantha (ZG08) are ethnomedicinal plants belong to Euphorbiaceae family Which are frequently used in treating various diseases in Ivory Coast. The aim of this study is to determine the phytochemical composition and safety level of these three plants. Phytochemical assays ...

Studies on cytotoxic, phytotoxic and volatile profile of the bark extract of the medicinal plant, Mallotus tetracoccus (Roxb.) Kurz.

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Biotechnology, 2013
This study was aimed at analysing the compounds present in the bark extract of Mallotus tetracoccus (Roxb.) Kurz. by GC-MS analysis and also to investigate the cytotoxic and phytotoxic activity of Mallotus tetracoccus (Roxb.) Kurz. bark extract. The major constituents in M. tetracoccus (Roxb.) Kurz. bark extract are thiocyanic acid and 2-propynyl ester

Anti-tuberculosis Compounds from Mallotus philippinensis

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2010
Bioassay-directed fractionation of the organic extract of Mallotus philippinensis gave five compounds (1-5), the most active of which against Mycobacterium tuberculosis was a new compound, 8-cinnamoyl-5,7-dihydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-6-geranylchromene (1) for ...

Kin discrimination in plants: overview and implications for population and community ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Following the discovery of identity discrimination, particularly self and kin discrimination amongst plant competitors, research on interplant interactions has advanced significantly within plant physiology and evolutionary ecology. This review synthesizes current knowledge on how both self and kin discrimination influence plant growth ...

Evidence for adaptive explanations of semelparity in animals

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Semelparity, the reproductive strategy of reproducing once, is widespread but uncommon in animals. Classes of models to explain the evolution of semelparity are based either on age structure and mortality schedules – demographic models in which high post‐reproductive mortality risk favours high reproductive effort and semelparity results from ...

An autonomous network of acoustic detectors to map tiger risk by eavesdropping on prey alarm calls

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Tiger population recovery brings with it increased fatalities from human‐tiger conflict. We describe a network of autonomous intelligent passive acoustic sensors that monitor the forest for deer alarm calls as a proxy for tiger risk and provide a risk map to local communities in real‐time.
