Production of the chimeric-binding protein, maltose-binding protein-protein a, by gene fusion
Journal of Biotechnology, 1995A fusion protein between maltose-binding protein (MBP) and staphylococcal protein A (SpA) was genetically produced. The gene fusion plasmid, pMALPA2, was constructed by inserting the protein A gene into an expression vector of maltose-binding protein in frame, and was expressed efficiently in Escherichia coli.

Abstract The maltose binding protein has been isolated from Escherichia coli and immobilized onto pore-controlled glass using three different chemical methods. All three methods immobilized similar quantities of protein but with different specific activities.

Membrane Protein Topology Determination by Proteolysis of Maltose Binding Protein Fusions
Analytical Biochemistry, 1993A method is presented for determining the topology of Escherichia coli inner membrane proteins that is based on proteolysis of fusion proteins between maltose binding protein (MBP) and the membrane protein of interest. Fusion proteins are constructed wherein the MBP domain is fused upstream of the membrane protein domain.

Induced fit of passenger proteins fused to Archaea maltose binding proteins
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2006Maltose binding proteins (MBPs) are used as carriers for improving the solubility of passenger proteins. Our results indicate that the higher solubility of the fusions correlates with their elevated heat stability. Fusions of the otherwise thermo-sensitive GFP with MBPs from Archaea, but not GST-GFP and Escherichia coli MBP-GFP, maintained their ...

Export of the periplasmic maltose-binding protein ofEscherichia coli
Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1990The export of the maltose-binding protein (MBP), the malE gene product, to the periplasm of Escherichia coli cells has been extensively investigated. The isolation of strains synthesizing MalE-LacZ hybrid proteins led to a novel genetic selection for mutants that accumulate export-defective precursor MBP (preMBP) in the cytoplasm.
