2008The apple tree is a hybrid originating from a combination of wild species (Malus sieversii is supposed to be the main contributor). Growers at first selected the best specimens by seedlings, but when grafting was discovered as a mean of vegetative propagation, improvement in fruit quality became faster.

Plant Science, 2009Abstract In contrast to the ubiquitously present flavonoids, dihydrochalcones seem to be restricted to approx. 30 plant families. In apple (Malus domestica Borkh.), the dihydrochalcone phloridzin (phloretin 2′-O-glucoside) is dominant representing more than 90% of the soluble phenolics in the leaves.

MicronNew data are presented on nanosized suberin structures that directly participate in the formation of suberin deposits into the cell walls of the Malus domestica outer pericarp zone.
