Pneumocephalus by Valsalva’s maneuver
Neurology, 2003Pneumocephalus (the accumulation of intracranial air) usually is associated with trauma, neoplasm, infection, or surgery. Spontaneous pneumocephalus is rare.1-7⇓⇓⇓⇓⇓⇓ We describe a patient with a large, asymptomatic pneumocephalus caused by the frequent performance of Valsalva’s maneuver.

Mendelson Maneuver and Masako Maneuver
2012This chapter reviews the effects of the Masako (aka, tongue-hold) and Mendelsohn swallow maneuvers on swallow physiology for patients with dysphagia. The indications for use of these maneuvers are reviewed, as is treatment efficacy. Future research needs are also discussed.

Careful preoperative trachea "mapping" with accurate measurements should make an unexpected shortfall in remaining tracheal length and mobility uncommon. Bronchoscopy is the most accurate means of "mapping" the pathologic tracheal anatomy. Rigid bronchoscopy using the ventilating bronchoscope is preferred over flexible bronchoscopy because it provides ...

clear returns often produced "enema fatigue" in their patients, sometimes to the point of syncope among the aged or actuely ill. At the same time, medical and x-ray personnel stated that, from a roentgenological standpoint, the patients were often very poorly prepared.

IF an orchestra hasn't rehearsed, the performance is not likely to be good. The same thing is true of an Army. So, when there is no shooting war, armies-and the nurses in them-hold rehearsals which they call field exercises. Combat units gather in a designated place and do simulated battle, and all Army nurses can expect to take part in such an ...

Valsalva maneuver in echocardiography
Journal of Echocardiography, 2016The Valsalva maneuver is an easily performed maneuver with an interesting hemodynamic effect which can be used to aid accurate echocardiographic diagnosis. However, correct adequate performance is often missed. Here, we aim to describe the performance of an adequate Valsalva maneuver and the correct interpretation of its effect.
