Bio‐ and chemical syntheses of mangiferin and congeners

BioFactors, 2016
AbstractMangiferin (2C‐β‐d‐glucopyranosyl‐1,3,6,7‐tetrahydroxyxanthone) is a xanthone C‐glycoside occurring in many plant species. Composed of a glucose unit C1→2 linked to a 1,3,6,7‐tetrahydroxyxanthone aglycone, mangiferin exhibits a wide range of biological activities, which recently renewed its interest as a potential pharmacophore.

Mangiferin and organ fibrosis: A mini review

BioFactors, 2020
AbstractFibrosis is the end stage of many chronic diseases, which results in organ function failure and high mortality. Mangiferin is a major constituent in mango and other 16 plants, and has been shown a variety of pharmacological effects, such as antioxidant, antibacterial, anti‐tumor, anti‐inflammation.

Preparation, Characterization and Quantification of Mangiferin in Mangiferin-loaded Microspheres

Current Pharmaceutical Analysis
Introduction: Mangiferin shows great promise as a potent drug for a wide variety of diseases. Its low bioavailability and poor water solubility, however, restrict its therapeutic use. Methods: The aim of the study goal was to systematically design a UV-spectroscopy method for mangiferin quantification in analytical samples that is quick, easy, and ...

Mangiferin and Its Traversal into the Brain

2012
Mangiferin, the main active substance of the mango tree bark (Mangifera indica L.), is known for its use in natural medicine, not only as a health enhancing panacea or adjunct therapeutic, but also for brain functions improvement. In this context, we deemed it worthwhile to establish whether mangiferin could traverse into the brain after systemic ...

Occurrence of Mangiferin in Hiptage madablota Geartn

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1968
A bright yellow, crystalline compound, m.p. 271–274°, isolated from the root-bark of Hiptage madablota Geartn. has been identified as mangiferin, 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxy-2-C- β -D-glucosylxanthone, by direct comparison of its properties and those of its derived 3,6,7-trimethyl ether with those of authentic samples.

Antidiabetic activity of a xanthone compound, mangiferin

Phytomedicine, 2001
Mangiferin (MF) isolated from Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bunge rhizome, was tested for antidiabetic activity in KK-Ay mice, an animal model of type-2 diabetes. MF lowered the blood glucose level of KK-Ay mice 3 weeks after oral administration (p < 0.01).

Harmonization of Mangiferin on methylmercury engendered mitochondrial dysfunction

Environmental Toxicology, 2016
ABSTRACTMangiferin (MGN), a C‐glucosylxanthone abundantly found in mango plants, was studied for its potential to ameliorate methylmercury (MeHg) induced mitochondrial damage in HepG2 (human hepatocarcinoma) cell line. Cell viability experiments performed using 3‐[4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl]‐2,5‐ diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) showed protective ...
