Formation of a Large Cold Groundwater Mantle Helium Anomaly and High Temperature Geothermal Resources in Response to Bimodal Magmatism Near Roosevelt Hot Springs and Utah FORGE, Milford Valley, Southwest Utah

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
A large mantle helium anomaly and separate domains of high heat flow are the predominant manifestations of bimodal magmatic activity in the Milford valley.

Mantle flow through a tear in the Nazca slab inferred from shear wave splitting

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2017
A tear in the subducting Nazca slab is located between the end of the Pampean flat slab and normally subducting oceanic lithosphere. Tomographic studies suggest mantle material flows through this opening.

Inverse problems in mantle convection : models, algorithms, and applications

open access: yes, 2013
textMantle convection is the principal control on the thermal and geological evolution of the earth, including the motion of the tectonic plates, which in turn influences earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

Brittle Structural Control and Fluid Progress of the Jinqingding Gold Deposit: Implications for Epizonal Gold Mineralization

open access: yesActa Geologica Sinica - English Edition, EarlyView.
High‐grade orebodies are controlled by stress field with σ1 oriented NE‐SW during the main mineralization stage.Inferred NEE‐trending strike‐slip fault control another orebody distribution. ABSTRACT The Jinqingding gold deposit in eastern Jiaodong is a significant gold mineralization within the Muping–Rushan metallogenic belt.

Resistance to mantle flow inferred from the electromagnetic strike of the Australian upper mantle

open access: yesNature, 2001
Seismic anisotropy is thought to result from the strain-induced lattice-preferred orientation of mantle minerals, especially olivine, owing to shear waves propagating faster along the a-axis of olivine crystals than along the other axes. This anisotropy results in birefringence, or 'shear-wave splitting', which has been investigated in numerous studies.

Filtration of airborne eDNA outperforms leaf swabs for terrestrial vertebrate detection in a temperate mixed forest with longer filtration times performing the best

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Advances in collection of environmental DNA (eDNA) through active air filtration and sampling from vegetation (leaf swabs) have demonstrated the promise of using airborne eDNA for terrestrial vertebrate surveys. However, methods are at an early stage, and we lack insights into the effect of air filtration time and the complementarity between ...

A numerical study of the dynamics of subduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The mechanics and dynamics of subduction have been studied using 2-D finite element analysis. Two finite element formulations have been employed; one formulation for Newtonian viscous flow and one formulation for linear elasticity and viscoelasticity ...

Toroidal-poloidal partitioning of plate motions since 120 MA

open access: yes, 1993
Changes in plate motions and plate configurations during the Cenozoic and Mesozoic have been investigated extensively, but most geodynamical models have concentrated on present-day plate motions.

Spectacle and Spy Stories: The 1954 Royal Commission on Espionage

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Menzies government's 1954 royal commission, established to investigate Soviet espionage in Australia, is well known as the backdrop to the Labor Party split. It saw opposition leader H.V. Evatt's demise and ushered in an almost 20‐year period of Liberal Party governance.

Emollient Formulations and Skin Barrier Practices in the Context of Eczema and Food Allergy Prevention

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The skin is far from a passive shield; it functions as a dynamic “living barrier” whose structural and immunological integrity is paramount in preventing atopic dermatitis (AD) and the subsequent progression of the atopic march toward food allergy (FA).
