Latent magmatism beneath the Korean Peninsula caused by asthenosphere upwelling

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Volatiles such as helium and carbon dioxide provide insights into geological processes spanning from the Earth’s deep interior to its surface. Integration with geophysical data providing enhanced vertical resolution with a wider horizontal range better ...

Petrogenetic processes in the ultramafic, alkaline and carbonatitic magmatism in the Kola Alkaline Province: a review

open access: yes, 2005
Igneous rocks of the Devonian Kola Alkaline Carbonatite Province (KACP) in NW Russia and eastern Finland can be classified into four groups: (a) primitive mantle-derived silica-undersaturated silicate magmas; (b) evolved alkaline and nepheline syenites; (

1. Experimental Investigation of Hydrous Melting of the Earth’s Upper Mantle, and 2. Olivine Abundances and Compositions in Hawaiian Lavas

open access: yes, 2010
(1) The presence of small amounts of water dissolved within nominally-anhydrous minerals in the earth has significant effects on the chemistry of melting in the Earth’s mantle.

Identifying Recycled Materials Using Mo Isotopes in Intraplate Alkali Basalts From the Southeastern Margin of Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Mantle heterogeneity in lithology and geochemistry is often attributed to recycled subducted materials. While distinct mantle end‐members are identified by radiogenic isotopes, the specific recycled materials contributing to this heterogeneity remain ...

Geochronology, geochemistry and Hf–Sr–Nd isotopes of the ore-bearing syenite from the Shapinggou porphyry Mo deposit, East Qinling-Dabie orogenic belt

open access: yesSolid Earth Sciences, 2016
The Shapinggou Mo deposit is located in the western Dabie mountains, the eastern part of the Qinling-Dabie molybdenum orogenic belt. Shapinggou Mo deposit is a concealed deposit with the ore body mainly hosted by explosive breccia of Gaijing and the ...

Numerical models, geochemistry and the zero–paradox noble–gas mantle

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2002
Numerical models of whole-mantle convection demonstrate that degassing of the mantle is an inefficient process, resulting in ca. 50% of the (40)Ar being degassed from the mantle system. In this sense the numerical simulations are consistent with the (40)Ar mass balance between the atmosphere and mantle reservoir.

The Zagros Core: Deformation of the continental lithospheric mantle

open access: yes
The Zagros of Iran form one of the youngest collisional orogenic belts on Earth. At shallow depths, shortening across the Zagros is accommodated by folding in the sediments, high-angle thrust faulting in the basement and thickening of the lower crust ...

The participation of ilmenite-bearing cumulates in lunar mantle overturn

open access: yes, 2019
The ilmenite-bearing cumulates (IBC) formed from the solidification of the lunar magma ocean are thought to have significantly affected the long-term evolution of the lunar interior and surface. Their high density is considered to trigger Rayleigh–Taylor

Petrological features of Subei Basin (Eastern China) lithospheric mantle and their relationships with H2O contents in NAMs

open access: yes, 2010
The Subei basin is located east of the Tanlu fault, a major discontinuity which separates the Archean North China Craton from the Proterozoic Yangtze Craton.

A seismological study of the mantle beneath Iceland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Iceland has long been thought to be underlain by a thermal upwelling, or plume, rising from deep within the mantle. This study tests this hypothesis, by a) seeking evidence for a plume in the lower mantle in azimuth anomalies at the NORSAR array and b ...
