Incorporating expression data in metabolic modeling: a case study of lactate dehydrogenase

open access: yes, 2005
Integrating biological information from different sources to understand cellular processes is an important problem in systems biology. We use data from mRNA expression arrays and chemical kinetics to formulate a metabolic model relevant to K562 ...

Dual-specificity MAP kinase phosphatases in health and disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Source at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bbamcr.2018.09.002.It is well established that a family of dual-specificity MAP kinase phosphatases (MKPs) play key roles in the regulated dephosphorylation and inactivation of MAP kinase isoforms in mammalian cells ...

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

Eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid modulate MAP kinase (ERK1/ERK2) signaling in human T cells

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2001
This study was conducted on human Jurkat T cell lines to elucidate the role of EPA and DHA, n-3 PUFA, in the modulation of two mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases, that is, extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1 and ERK2).

Regulation of blood-testis barrier dynamics: An in vivo study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
An in vivo model was used to investigate the regulation of tight junction (TJ) dynamics in the testis when adult rats were treated with CdCl2. It was shown that the CdCl2-induced disruption of the blood-testis barrier (BTB) associated with a transient ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Heat Shock Protein 70 Negatively Regulates TGF-β-Stimulated VEGF Synthesis via p38 MAP Kinase in Osteoblasts

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2017
Background/Aims: We previously demonstrated that transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) stimulates the synthesis of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) through the activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase in osteoblast-like MC3T3-E1 ...

Grb2 monomer-dimer equilibrium determines normal versus oncogenic function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The adaptor protein growth factor receptor-bound protein 2 (Grb2) is ubiquitously expressed in eukaryotic cells and involved in a multitude of intracellular protein interactions.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

PREDICTION OF 3D STRUCTURE OF MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE KINASE 2 USING ALPHAFOLD 2 AND SIMULATION OF ITS INTERACTION WITH MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE 6 IN ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Development
Arabidopsis thaliana mitogen-activated protein kinase (MPK or MAPK) signaling network plays significant roles in various cellular processes. The three-dimensional structure of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 2 (MKK2), an upstream kinase in the ...
