Detection of maple toxins in mare's milk. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Vet Intern Med, 2021
Abstract Background Plants from the Sapindaceae family that are consumed by horses (maple) and humans (ackee and litchi) are known to contain the toxins hypoglycin A and methylenecyclopropylglycine which cause seasonally occurring myopathy in horses and entero-encephalopathic sickness in humans.

Color Stability of Fermented Mare's Milk and a Fermented Beverage from Cow's Milk Adapted to Mare's Milk Composition. [PDF]

open access: yesFoods, 2020
Color is important for the consumer when making a purchase decision. Mare’s milk and, thus, fermented mare’s milk is little known to consumers. Thus, it is worth presenting research showing the extent of color change during the production and storage of mare’s milk.

Arabian mare's milk characterisation and clotting ability. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Food Sci Technol, 2022
The objective of this study is to characterize purebred Arab mares' milk through monitoring its physicochemical and microbiological composition during different lactation stages and to test its ability to coagulate. Sixteen purebred Arabian mares were selected among 45 mares with approximately the same foaling dates.

Duct‐level evaluation of mammary gland health, somatic cell count and bacterial flora in lactating jennies

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Assessing mammary gland health in donkeys is challenging due to the lack of species‐specific diagnostic criteria for subclinical mastitis. Although somatic cell count (SCC) is widely used in dairy ruminants, its diagnostic value in jennies remains unclear.

A New Vista of Opportunity in Diabetes Management: Natural Product‐Based β‐cell Preservation

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Preserving functional β‐cells via natural products offers promising strategy for diabetes treatment. ABSTRACT A defining characteristic of diabetes is β‐cell failure, in which β‐cells cannot modulate insulin secretion to compensate for escalating insulin resistance, pushing forward disease development.

Heterogeneity in Whey Proteins of Mare's Milk

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1977
The possible existence of multiple forms in the whey proteins of mare's milk was investigated. When individual milk samples from over 300 animals of various breeds were examined, four forms of an undescribed whey protein could be observed. Based on chemical properties and electrophoretic behavior, this protein has been identified tentatively as Whey1 ...

Emollient Formulations and Skin Barrier Practices in the Context of Eczema and Food Allergy Prevention

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The skin is far from a passive shield; it functions as a dynamic “living barrier” whose structural and immunological integrity is paramount in preventing atopic dermatitis (AD) and the subsequent progression of the atopic march toward food allergy (FA).

Hyperactivation and Tyrosine Phosphorylation of Cryopreserved Stallion Spermatozoa in Relation to Conventional In Vitro Fertilization Blastocyst Production

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Challenges in establishing clinical conventional in vitro fertilization (IVF) in horses include variation in sperm and oocyte quality, which can be affected by mare age. Extended preincubation of stallion spermatozoa has resulted in successful IVF.

Component Acids of Mare’S Milk Fat

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 1965
The milk fat from 20 mares on pasture and 9 stable-fed mares was analysed. It is richer in C18:3 than the milk of other domestic species. This was especially marked when the mares were on pasture and were not given any grain. Further, mare’s milk fat is rich in fatty acids containing less than 14 carbon atoms in their chains.
