AbstractObjectiveTo characterize the clinical and histopathologic changes in a rat model of broad‐spectrum matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)–induced musculoskeletal syndrome (MSS), and to facilitate research into the causes and treatments of MSS in humans.MethodsMale Lewis rats weighing 150–180 gm were administered 10–30 mg of the broad‐spectrum MMP ...

This pilot study was designed to assess whether a synthetic matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor has anti-inflammatory properties in mild asthma. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) has been shown to be an important cytokine in the pathogenesis of allergic airway inflammatory responses, and its release can be inhibited by MMP inhibitors.

An improved synthesis of the broad spectrum matrix metalloprotease inhibitor marimastat
Abstract A considerably shortened synthesis of the broad spectrum matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor marimastat has been achieved by a direct hydroxylamino ring opening of a key acetonide intermediate.

The interaction of metal ions and Marimastat with matrix metalloproteinase 9
Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 2003The effect of a range of metal ions on the ability of Marimastat to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) was examined in a fluorescence based proteolytic assay. Whilst none of the metals examined significantly affected the inhibitory ability of Marimastat, several metal ions did have a significant effect on MMP-9 activity itself.
