Marine Actinobacteria: New Horizons in Bioremediation
2020Pollution of marine environment affects the biosphere leading to severe consequences. Bioremediation of marine pollutants mediated by actinomycetes is viable and a low cost preposition. Marine actinomycetes, in consortia and axenic culture, are highly effective means of degradation of pollutants like petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), oil spills, heavy ...

Diversity and novelty of actinobacteria in Arctic marine sediments
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 2014The actinobacterial diversity of Arctic marine sediments was investigated using culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches. A total of 152 strains were isolated from seven different media; 18 isolates were selected for phylogenetic analysis on the basis of their 16S rRNA gene sequences.

Prospects of using marine actinobacteria as probiotics in aquaculture
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2008Chemotherapeutic agents have been banned for disease management in aquaculture systems due to the emergence of antibiotic resistance gene and enduring residual effects in the environments. Instead, microbial interventions in sustainable aquaculture have been proposed, and among them, the most popular and practical approach is the use of probiotics.

Diversity of cultivable actinobacteria in geographically widespread marine sediments
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 2005Reports describing actinobacteria isolated from marine environments have been dominated by Micromonospora, Rhodococcus and Streptomyces species. Recent culture-independent studies have shown that marine environments contain a high diversity of actinobacterial species that are rarely, if at all, recovered by cultivation-based methods.

Apoptosis-inducing Metabolite from Marine Mangrove Actinobacteria VITGAP173
Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal ChemistryBackground: Marine actinobacteria have proven to be a remarkable source of bioactive metabolites. Methods: The present study focused on the isolation of anticancer metabolites from marine actinobacteria. Streptomyces sp. VITGAP173 was found to have promising anticancer activity against breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7).

Culturable actinobacteria isolated from marine sponge Iotrochota sp.
Marine Biology, 2007The study describes the diversity of actinobacteria isolated from the marine sponge Iotrochota sp. collected in the South China Sea. Species and natural product diversity of isolates were analyzed, including screening for genes encoding polyketide synthases (PKS) and nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS), and 16S rRNA gene restriction fragment length ...

Diversity of Actinobacteria Associated with the Marine Ascidian Eudistoma toealensis
Marine Biotechnology, 2015Ascidians have yielded a wide variety of bioactive natural products. The colonial ascidian Eudistoma toealensis from Micronesia has been identified as the source of a series of staurosporine derivatives, though the exact origin of these derivatives is still unknown. To identify known staurosporine-producing microbes associated with E.
