System Identification of Robotic Fish Swimming Reveals Roles of Reactive and Resistive Fluid Force in Two Distinct Swimming Gaits

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
System identification and particle image velocimetry reveal how a modular robotic fish changes thrust physics across gaits. A traveling‐wave, fish‐like motion draws thrust from resistive drag, while a resonant standing‐wave motion is driven by reactive pressure.

Chlorinated Paraffin Pollution in the Marine Environment

Environmental Science & Technology, 2023
Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are ubiquitous in the environment due to their large-scale usage, persistence, and long-range atmospheric transport. The oceans are a critical environment where CPs transformation occurs.

Microplastics in the marine environment: Current trends in environmental pollution and mechanisms of toxicological profile

Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2019
The global plastics production has increased from 1.5 million tons in the 1950s to 335 million tons in 2016, with plastics discharged into virtually all components of the environment.

Significance of interactions between microplastics and POPs in the marine environment: A critical overview

TrAC - Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 2019
The presence of plastic debris in the ocean is increasing and several effects in the marine environment have been reported. A great number of studies have demonstrated that microplastics (MPs) adsorb organic compounds concentrating them several orders of

The factors influencing the vertical transport of microplastics in marine environment: A review.

Science of the Total Environment, 2023
There have been numerous studies that have identified the presence of low-density microplastics (MPs) in the water column and sediments. The focus of current MPs research has shifted towards the interaction of MPs with marine organisms and their ...
