Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Organizational Culture Perspective Ethnological Approach Reflected in the Work of Dimitrie Cantemir

open access: yesEIRP Proceedings, 2012
Culture is the foundation to explain nearly all phenomena and processes occurring withinorganizations, as well as performance differences between organizations. Similar national culture, organizational culture is at the same time, the premise and starting

Ripensare la migrazione di ritorno: esperienze vissute e regimi di mobilità in trasformazione - Rethinking Return Migration: Lived Experiences and Shifting Mobility Regimes

open access: yesEtnoAntropologia
The contemporary increase in return migration provides a critical vantage point from which to interrogate the exclusionary logics underpinning current migration governance.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

The lent particle method for marked point processes

open access: yes, 2010
International audienceAlthough introduced in the case of Poisson random measures, the lent particle method applies as well in other situations. We study here the case of marked point processes.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Inhomogeneous mark correlation functions for general marked point processes

open access: yesBiometrics
ABSTRACT Spatial phenomena in environmental and biological contexts often involve events that are unevenly distributed across space, carrying attributes whose associations/variations are space-dependent. In this paper, we introduce the class of inhomogeneous mark correlation functions, which capture mark associations/variations while ...
