The ovine HIAT1 gene: mRNA expression, InDel mutations, and growth trait associations
BackgroundThe hippocampal abundant transcript 1 (HIAT1) gene, also known as major facilitator superfamily domain-containing 14A (MFSD14A), encodes for a transmembrane transporter protein and has been previously shown to be associated with milk production

Study of inheritance and identification of QTLs linked to Ceratocystis wilt resistance in cacao [PDF]
Ceratocystis wilt (CW) in cacao, caused by Ceratocystis cacaofunesta, is a drastic disease that results in plant death. The pathogen was recently identified in the major cacao-producing region of Brazil-Bahia.

Marker-assisted selection (MAS) in the fish genetic improvement
The purpose of genetic improvement must be defined for each species and for each population. In general, all economically important characteristics should be included in the breeding objective. Marker-assisted genetic improvement constitutes a feasible solution to the problem.

Introgression of Striga Resistance Genes into a Sudanese Sorghum Cultivar, Tabat, Using Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) [PDF]
Resistant crop cultivars provide the most economical, practical and sustainable method of Striga control. However, the development of resistant sorghum cultivars slowed by the complexity of the environment and the host/parasite interactions, which made field resistance erratic and unreliable.

Cultivated maize (Zea mays L.) is the oldest and one of the most important crop species in the world. Changing climatic conditions in recent years, warm weather, expansion of acreage and intensification of maize cultivation have resulted in an increase in the threat posed by diseases caused by, among others, Fusarium fungi.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Meristems are central to plant growth and development, yet evidence of directly manipulating this control to improve crop yield is scarce. Kernel row number (KRN) is an important agronomic trait that can directly affect maize (Zea mays L.) yield. However,

This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
