Bayesian Model Selection for Markov, Hidden Markov, and Multinomial Models [PDF]
Model selection based on observed data sequences is used to decide between different model structures within the class of multinomial, Markov, and hidden Markov models. In a unified Bayesian treatment, we derive posterior probabilities for different model structures without assuming prior knowledge of transition probabilities.

Using Multi-state Markov models to predict the probability of borrowers’ default [PDF]
Introduction. After the crises, lenders realized the importance of assessing the risk of default on loan portfolios in various economic conditions. Modeling of credit risk assessment occurs mainly using internal ratings of banks based on probabilistic ...

A Markov chain is a popular data modeling tool. This paper presents a variation of Markov chain, namely extensible Markov model (EMM). By providing a dynamically adjustable structure, EMM overcomes the problems caused by the static nature of the traditional Markov chain.

Discrete Time Hybrid Semi-Markov Models in Manpower Planning
Discrete time Markov models are used in a wide variety of social sciences. However, these models possess the memoryless property, which makes them less suitable for certain applications.
