Microstructural characterization of AISI 431 martensitic stainless steel laser-deposited coatings [PDF]
High cooling rates during laser cladding of stainless steels may alter the microstructure and phase constitution of the claddings and consequently change their functional properties.

LATH MARTENSITES IN LOW CARBON STEELS
The morphology and crystallography of lath martensite in low and medium carbon steels have been studied by transmission electron microscopy and diffraction. The steels have microduplex structures of dislocated lath martensite (a < b ≪ c) with fairly straight boundaries and continuous interlath thin films of retained austenite.

The influence of deformation and austenitization temperature on the kinetics of phase transformations during cooling of high-carbon steel [PDF]
The aim of the performed experiments was to determine the influence of deformation and of austenitization temperature on the kinetics of phase transformations during cooling of high-carbon steel (0.728 wt. % C).

Microbiologically influenced corrosion of stainless steel independent of sulfate-reducing bacteria
The presence and activities of microorganisms on metal surfaces can affect corrosion. Microbial communities after such corrosion incidents have been frequently analyzed, but little is known about the dynamics of microbial communities in biofilms on ...

Effects of aluminum on hydrogen solubility and diffusion in deformed Fe-Mn alloys [PDF]
We discuss hydrogen diffusion and solubility in aluminum alloyed Fe-Mn alloys. The systems of interest are subjected to tetragonal and isotropic deformations. Based on ab initio modelling, we calculate solution energies, then employ Oriani's theory which
