Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases: A Systematic Review of Functional Foods, Medicinal Plants, Phytochemicals, Bioactive Compounds and Nutrients Effective Against Metabolic Diseases

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
The study demonstrates how functional foods, medicinal plants, phytochemicals, bioactive compounds and essential nutrients combat metabolic diseases. It highlights their mechanisms, including antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, insulin‐sensitising, lipid‐regulating, gut microbiota‐modulating and mitochondrial‐enhancing effects, leading to improved ...

Identification of signature gene set as highly accurate determination of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease progression [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Molecular Hepatology
Background/Aims Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is characterized by fat accumulation in the liver. MASLD encompasses both steatosis and MASH.

Surgically confirmed severe endometriosis is associated with lower risk of steatotic liver disease: Evidence of estrogen‐linked hepatic–reproductive crosstalk

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Severe surgically confirmed endometriosis was associated with a lower prevalence of steatotic liver disease than non‐severe disease. Higher estradiol levels may partly explain this inverse hepatic–reproductive association, supporting integrated gynecologic and hepatologic risk assessment.

Redefining Fatty Liver Disease: How Updated Nomenclature Reshapes Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics

open access: yesiLABMED, EarlyView.
The transition from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) reorients laboratory diagnosis from exclusion‐based rules toward metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers. This review compares their diagnostic criteria, epidemiology, insulin resistance mechanisms, imaging, and key laboratory ...

Fructose induces metabolic reprogramming in liver cancer cells, promoting aggressiveness and chemotherapy resistance [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Digestive Diseases
Aim: Fructose is a highly lipogenic compound related to the onset of steatosis, its progression to steatohepatitis, and the eventual initiation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Human biomarker navigator

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
The Human Biomarker Navigator integrates the disease continuum, biomarker dynamics, cross‐organ biomarker networks, biomarker classification, and technology‐driven paradigms. It maps how biomarkers link multi‐system physiology and pathology across the nervous, respiratory, endocrine, circulatory, immune, digestive, urinary, reproductive, and ...

Downregulation of the p.A165 risk allele reduces hepatocyte lipid content by increasing beta-oxidation [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Molecular Hepatology
Background/Aims Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a global epidemic. The disease has a strong genetic component, and a common missense variant (rs2642438) in the mitochondrial amidoxime-reducing component 1 (MARC1) gene ...

Non‐Nutritive Artificial Sweeteners Aspartame and Acesulfame‐K Ameliorate Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Male Ldlr−/− Mice

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aspartame and acesulfame‐K are commonly used non‐nutritive artificial sweeteners, but their impacts on cardiovascular disease and metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease (MASLD) are unclear. In this study, we evaluated the impacts of aspartame and acesulfame‐K on MASLD and atherosclerosis in male Ldlr−/− mice fed an AMLN diet ...

Aerobic Exercise as a Therapeutic Strategy in Children and Adolescents with Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) and Obesity: A Systematic Review

open access: yesArchives of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition
Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is the most prevalent chronic liver disease in children and adolescents, particularly those with obesity. MASLD often progresses to serious hepatic and metabolic complications.

ATP Citrate Lyase in Metabolic Disease: Mechanistic Insights and Clinical Potential

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ATP citrate lyase (ACLY) is a central metabolic hub that diverts mitochondrial citrate to fuel de novo lipogenesis, cholesterol biosynthesis, and protein acetylation. Given its robust correlation with pathological changes in multiple human diseases, ACLY inhibitors featuring distinct pharmacological strengths have been developed for therapeutic ...
