Effects of Clumping on the Observed Properties of Dusty Galaxies

open access: yes, 1999
We present Monte Carlo radiative transfer simulations for spiral galaxies modelled as a stellar disk and a two-phase clumpy dust distribution. We divide the volume occupied by the dust into a three-dimensional grid and assign each cell a clump or smooth ...

Fluorescent Nanodiamonds Based Theranostic Platform for pH‐Sensitive Drug Delivery and Quantum Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional nanodiamond platform enables pH‐triggered Diazoxide (DZX) delivery and quantum sensing of subcellular radical dynamics in triple‐negative breast cancer cells. Diamond relaxometry revealed reduced lysosomal radicals during DZX‐induced mitochondrial radical elevation, providing insights into redox modulation and organelle‐ resolved ...

A comprehensive study of the energy absorption and exposure buildup factors of different bricks for gamma-rays shielding

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
The present investigation has been performed on different bricks for the purpose of gamma-ray shielding. The values of the mass attenuation coefficient (µ/ρ), energy absorption buildup factor (EABF) and exposure buildup factor (EBF) were determined and ...

Acoustic Attenuation in Fans and Ducts by Vaporization of Liquid Droplets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
A cloud of small water droplets in saturated air attenuates acoustic disturbances by viscous drag, heat transfer, and vapor exchange with the ambient gas. The viscous and heat transfer phenomena attenuate at frequencies above 104 Hz for I-J.l droplets.

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Nuclear radiation shielding effectiveness and corrosion behavior of some steel alloys for nuclear reactor systems

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2019
Different types of nuclear parameters and corrosion behavior were deduced for carbon steel (AISI 1018), austenitic (304 SS), and duplex (2507 SS) stainless steel alloys.

The 3-Dimensional Distribution of Dust in NGC 891

open access: yes, 2011
We produce three-dimensional Monte-Carlo radiative transfer models of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 891, a fast-rotating galaxy thought to be an analogue to the Milky Way. The models contain realistic spiral arms and a fractal distribution of clumpy dust.

Electrically Tunable On‐Chip Topological Photonics with Integrated Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates electrically tunable on‐chip topological THz devices by integrating 2D carbon nanotube (CNT) sheets with valley‐Hall photonic crystals, enabling broadband transmission modulation (71% modulation depth) and tunable narrowband filtering (0.54 GHz shift) through electrically induced thermal tuning. This advancement paves the way for

Measurement of Mass Attenuation Coefficients for Some Potassium Compounds

open access: yesBilecik Şeyh Edebali Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi, 2019
In this study, the mass attenuation coefficients of some potassium compounds (KH 2 PO 4 , KNO 3 , K 2 S 2 O 8 , KOH, K 2 HPO 4 , K 2 SO 4 , KCl, KIO 3, and KI) have been measured by using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (EDXRFS) and a high-resolution Si(Li) detector.
