A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Glacier mass balance Jamtalferner, Silvretta, Austria, 1995/1996

open access: yes, 2013
The glacier mass balance of Jamtalferner has been measured annually since 1988/1989 with the direct/glaciological method. Winter mass balance has been determined for 1 May in all years.

The impact of Saharan dust and black carbon on albedo and long-term mass balance of an Alpine glacier [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Light-absorbing impurities in snow and ice control glacier melt as shortwave radiation represents the main component of the surface energy balance. Here, we investigate the long-term effect of snow impurities, i.e., mineral dust and black carbon (BC),

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Mass Balance-Based Quality Control of PVT Results of Reservoir Oil DL Studies

open access: yesEnergies
Fluid properties live at the heart of hydrocarbon reservoir engineering as it is related to the behavior of fluids under reservoir pressure depletion. To obtain their values, PVT experimental work needs to be performed. Although the experimental workflow

Simulating climatic mass balance, seasonal snow development and associated freshwater runoff in the Kongsfjord basin, Svalbard (1980–2016)

open access: yes, 2018
The Kongsfjord basin in northwest Svalbard is the site of a number of interdisciplinary studies concerned with the effect of fresh water from seasonal snow and glacier melt on the physical and biological environment.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Profile of the Effectiveness Factor under Optimal Operating Conditions for the Conversion of Ortho-Xylene to Phthalic Anhydride in a Fixed-Bed Tubular Reactor

open access: yesChemEngineering
The objective of this research is to find the effectiveness factor of the catalyst particles for the most favorable conditions of the phthalic anhydride production in a fixed bed reactor, with the aim of achieving the highest rate of phthalic anhydride ...
