Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Sampling systems for isotope ratio mass spectrometry of atmospheric ammonia

open access: yes, 2006
Passive and active ammonia (NH3) sampling devices have been tested for their nitrogen (N) capture potential and 15N fractionation effects. Several sampling techniques produced significantly different 15NH3 signals when sampling the same NH3 source ...

The quark mass ratio and the η' mass

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1977
Abstract Within a class of null-plane field theories we show that the Gell-Mann Oakes, Renner value for the quark mass ratio is not inconsistent with the η' mass.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

ON A VARIATION OF THE PROTON-ELECTRON MASS RATIO [PDF]

open access: yesLaser Spectroscopy, 2008
Recently indication for a possible variation of the proton-to-electron mass ratio μ=mp/me was found from a comparison between laboratory H2 spectroscopic data and the same lines in quasar spectra. This result will be put in perspective of other spectroscopic activities aiming at detection of variation of fundamental constants, on a cosmological as well

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
