The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand adopts a closed conformation that underlies a multi‐modal sensory role in mitochondria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 971-988, April 2025.
We present the first solution structure of the Ca2+‐depleted LETM1 F‐EF‐hand through a D676A/N678A Ca2+ binding‐deficient mutant, revealing a closed hydrophobic cleft caused by a unique F1‐helix pivot. The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand exhibits regiospecific hot and cold unfolding, sensitivity to physiological pH changes and potential for promiscuous heterotypic

A Possible Correlation between Mass Ratio and Period Ratio in Multiple Planetary Systems

open access: yes, 2003
We report on a possible correlation between the mass ratio and period ratio of pairs of adjacent planets in extra-solar planetary systems. Monte-Carlo simulations show that the effect is significant to level of 0.7%, as long as we exclude two pairs of ...

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Mass loss out of close binaries [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 510, A13 (2010), 2009
In a liberal evolutionary scenario, mass can escape from a binary during eras of fast mass transfer. We calculate the mass lost by binaries with a B-type primary at birth where mass transfer starts during hydrogen core burning of the donor. We simulate the distribution of mass-ratios and orbital periods for those interacting binaries.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Mass ratio estimates for overcontact binaries using the derivatives of light curves [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The photometric mass ratios of eclipsing binaries are usually estimated by light-curve modeling with an iterative method. We propose a new method for estimating the photometric mass ratio of an overcontact binary using the derivatives of a light curve, which provides a reasonable uncertainty value.

NSVS 2569022: a peculiar binary among the W UMa stars with extremely small mass ratios [PDF]

open access: yesRAA, Manuscript No. MS 4197 (RAA-2018-0107), 2018
Photometric observations of the W UMa binary NSVS 2569022 are presented. The light curve solution reveals that both components are of F spectral type (temperatures $T_1$=$T_2$=6100 K). NSVS 254037 undergoes total eclipse of W subtype and the mass ratio is well-determined.

Mass-To-Light Ratios of Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1984
Mass-to-light ratios M/LH−0.5 and M/LB are plotted against color B-H−0.5 in Fig. 1 for 82 nearby spirals from the catalog of Aaronson et al. (1982, Ap. J. Suppl. 50, 241), with BT magnitudes from the RC2, |b| > 20°, 45° ≤ i ≤ 80°, and HI mass estimates.

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.
