Studies on Aedes albopictus Larval Mass-Rearing Optimization

Journal of Economic Entomology, 2011
To set up a sterile male technique program to control Aedes albopictus (Skuse) in areas in northern Italy, a pilot mass-rearing facility is under development. For this purpose, experiments were carried out to find the optimal larval density for the optimization of the rearing parameters, i.e., to obtain the fastest larval development, the highest ...

Quality Aspects of Mass-Reared Insects

1977
Control of the quality of mass-produced industrial goods is a matter of survival for any industrial enterprise that has to compete on the market. A constant survey of the market situation provides feedback to the factory where quality, design, or price levels have to be adjusted in order for the company to remain in business.

Mass Rearing of Apis cerana F. Queen

Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology, 2005
Abstract The conditions that determine the success of mass rearing of Apis cerana F. queens were studied. It was found that artificial queen cell cups with the internal diameter of 6.2mm at base 8.6mm at the mouth and 8.8mm depth were highly preferred by the bees for rearing of queens from the grafted larvae.

Automatic mass-rearing of Amblyseius womersleyi (Acari: Phytoseiidae)

Experimental & Applied Acarology, 2001
Using incorporated devices, Tetranychus urticae spider mites were rinsed from hydroponically-grown lima bean plants, collected, separated and blow-dried. This yielded a reliable and large volume of eggs and larvae, which were fed to Amblyseius womersleyi rearings on 15 x 5 cm2 polyethylene arenas.

Mass-Rearing for Sterile Insect Release

2006
As the sterile insect technique (SIT) relies upon released sterile male insects efficiently competing with wild males to mate with wild females, it follows that mass-rearing of insects is one of the principal steps in the process. Mass-rearing for the SIT presents both problems and opportunities due to the increased scale involved compared with rearing
