Mass spectroscopy at high mass
Fresenius' Zeitschrift für analytische Chemie, 1986High mass in mass spectroscopy is defined as being the region above m/z 10000. Ionization techniques, methods of mass analysis and ion detection are reviewed. A general mechanism of formation of gaseous ions from nonvolatile, thermally labile compounds is put forward.

The mass of13Be has been measured with the reaction13C(14C,14O)13Be at ELab=337 MeV. A Q-value of Q0=−37.02(5) MeV was obtained and the mass excess is M.E.=35.16(5) MeV. If the observed line corresponds to the ground state,13 Be is particle unstable with respect to the oneneutron emission by 2.01 MeV.
