Data from: A mast-seeding desert shrub regulates population dynamics and behavior of its heteromyid dispersers

open access: yes, 2016
Granivorous rodent populations in deserts are primarily regulated through precipitation-driven resource pulses rather than pulses associated with mast-seeding, a pattern more common in mesic habitats.

Interannual dynamic resource selection patterns of the northern bobwhite in a region with poor edaphic conditions

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Understanding an organism's shifting resource needs throughout its life cycle is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies. Northern bobwhite Colinus virginianus populations have been declining for nearly a century due largely to habitat loss/degradation.

A Case Report on Rehabilitation of the Asiatic Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) in the Wild 亚洲黑熊 (Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) 野外放归野化案例报告

open access: yesWildlife Letters, EarlyView.
Asiatic black bears in Russia face conservation threats such as habitat destruction and fragmentation, which exacerbate food shortages caused by crop failures. This study explores an innovative approach to rehabilitating bears that abandon hibernation in mid‐winter due to extreme exhaustion by providing supplemental food near their den sites.

Plant Marriage in Contemporary Biology: Epistemic, Evolutionary, and Cultural Perspectives

open access: yesMetaScientia: Journal of the History and Philosophy of Science
This review explores “plant marriage” as a historically influential but conceptually limited epistemic metaphor that has shaped our understanding of plant reproduction.

Drivers of Mouse Plagues: Exceptional Rainfall Following Prolonged Drought Triggers Mouse Plagues in Southeastern Australia

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study identified a specific sequence of an extended drought followed by exceptional rainfall as a necessary precursor for mouse plagues in southeastern Australia. Long‐term rainfall anomalies interact with ecological processes to reset population dynamics, creating conditions that support rapid mouse population growth following periods of ...

Nature beyond linearity : meteorological variability and Jensen's inequality can explain mast seeding behaviour

open access: yes, 2021
Mast seeding, the extremely variable and synchronized production of fruits, is a common reproductive behavior in plants. Weather is centrally involved in driving masting.

Animal‐Mediated Dispersal and Clonal Growth Drive Prunus cerasus Invasion in Andean Temperate Forest

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Prunus cerasus reproduces by clonality and by seed dispersal and germination. P. cerasus is invading Patagonian protected areas. The relative relevance of germination and clonal reproduction changes along the time of P. cerasus arrival at a site. Seed dispersal by foxes is primarily responsible for the spread of P. cerasus to new areas.

Regeneration Strategies in Seed Plants: A Continuum Shaping Survival

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Seed plants dominate terrestrial ecosystems in part because regeneration is not a single event, but a coordinated sequence of traits acting across time and space.
