Spatial patterns in Mastomys natalensis in Tanzania (Rodentia, Muridae)

Mammalia, 1996

Mastomys natalensis or Mastomys coucha. Correct species designation in animal experiments.

Tropical medicine and parasitology : official organ of Deutsche Tropenmedizinische Gesellschaft and of Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), 1990
Haemoglobin electrophoresis and chromosome analysis indicate that the widely used multimammate rat (chamois coloured) as experimental animal belongs to the species Mastomys coucha (Smith, 1836) and not, as commonly assumed, to Mastomys natalensis (Smith, 1834).

Productivity of Different Generations in a Population of Mastomys natalensis Rats in Tanzania

Oikos, 1993
In Tanzania three different generation types can be recognized in Mastomys natalensis rats. The α-generation is born in the main breeding season and breeds in the next main breeding season. The β-generation is born in the main breeding season but reproduces already after abundant off-season rainfall.

Filaricidal effects of Cyclosporin-A against Dipetalonema viteae in Mastomys natalensis

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1984
Outbred male Mastomys natalensis were injected subcutaneously with 100 infective larvae of Dipetalonema viteae obtained from Ornithodorus tartakovskyi. Groups of five animals were treated with 30 mg/kg of the immunosuppressive drug Cyclosporin-A daily for five days (experimental) or Miglyol 812 (control).

Absence of anti-acetylcholine receptor antibodies in Praomys (Mastomys) natalensis.

Clinical and experimental immunology, 1981
It has been suggested in the past that Praomys (Mastomys) natalensis might be an animal model for human myasthenia gravis. This suggestion was based on the occurrence of thymomas and autoantibody to striated muscle in this animal species. Myasthenia gravis in man is associated with anti-striated muscle antibody and thymoma as well as antiacetylcholine ...

Morphological and histochemical study of the submandibular gland in Praomys (Mastomys) natalensis.

Acta anatomica, 1985
The submandibular gland in female and male Praomys (Mastomys) natalensis (a South African multimammate rodent) was studied using light microscopy and techniques for the demonstration of carbohydrates. Hematoxylin and eosin stain revealed the presence of a single secreting component that gave a strongly positive PAS reaction.
