Electronic depth profiles with atomic layer resolution from resonant soft x-ray reflectivity [PDF]
The analysis of x-ray reflectivity data from artificial heterostructures usually relies on the homogeneity of optical properties of the constituent materials.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Quantitative imaging of anisotropic material properties with vectorial ptychography
Following the recent establishment of the formalism of vectorial ptychography [Ferrand et al., Opt. Lett. 40, 5144 (2015)], first measurements are reported in the optical range, demonstrating the capability of the proposed method to map the four ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Disorder-to-order transition in the magnetic and electronic properties of URh_2Ge_2 [PDF]
We present a study of annealing effects on the physical properties of tetragonal single--crystalline URh_2Ge_2. This system, which in as-grown form was recently established as the first metallic 3D random-bond heavy-fermion spin glass, is transformed by ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tunable dual-band perfect absorber consisting of periodic cross-cross monolayer graphene arrays
In this paper, we propose a tunable dual-band perfect absorber, which makes the thicker SiO2 dielectric as a spacer to separate the gold layer from the periodic cross-cross monolayer graphene array layer which locates the roof of whole absorber.
