Assessing materialism in Indian urban youth

open access: yesManagement : Journal of Contemporary Management Issues, 2015
In India, the concept of materialism has shifted from (the Indian philosophical concepts) Lokāyata/Cārvāka, from supernaturalism to naturalism, following the development of science and modernism.

The Criticism of Materialism in Late Ottoman’s New Science of Kalām

open access: yesULUM, 2019
Materialism, which reduces the whole of existence as simply matter and its interactions, and respectively ignores the intervention of a divine being into the universe; it is often traced back to a time when philosophy was born. However, when we study the

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Associations Between Materialism, Gratitude, and Well-Being in Children of Overseas Filipino Workers

open access: yesEurope's Journal of Psychology, 2018
Children left behind by parents who are overseas Filipino workers (OFW) benefit from parental migration because their financial status improves. However, OFW families might emphasize the economic benefits to compensate for their separation, which might ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Self-compassion, the ‘quiet ego’ and materialism

open access: yesHeliyon, 2018
The research is an investigation of self-compassion and materialism. Self-compassion is when an individual has a caring, non-judgmental view of the self.

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
