The polymer laser sintering (PLS) process is one of the most promising additive manufacturing (AM) technologies for polymeric materials. However, the technique has challenges because the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of the polymeric ...

Fracture of brittle materials at high temperature
Abstract : Ceramic materials offer the potential for significantly increased operating temperatures, increased efficiency and lower costs for gas turbine engines. However, the brittle nature and resulting catastrophic mode of failure of ceramic materials requires a design approach based on consideration of crack nucleation and growth.

Nanocrystalline cathodes for PC-SOFCs [PDF]
Ceramic proton conductors are of great interest for the development of solid oxide fuel cells (PC-SOFC) operating at relatively low temperatures between 400 and 700 ºC.

Selective gas detection using Mn3O4/WO3 composites as a sensing layer [PDF]
Pure WO3 sensors and Mn3O4/WO3 composite sensors with different Mn concentrations (1 atom %, 3 atom % and 5 atom %) were successfully prepared through a facile hydrothermal method.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Twofold rigidity activates ultralong organic high-temperature phosphorescence
A strategy is pioneered for achieving high-temperature phosphorescence using planar rigid molecules as guests and rigid polymers as host matrix. The planar rigid configuration can resist the thermal vibration of the guest at high temperatures, and the ...

Tribology of carbon-containing materials at high temperatures
Abstract The work is devoted to high-temperature flaboratory tribological tests of carbon-containing materials and their modification. The studies have shown that at a temperature of 300-600 º C and a load of 1.0 MPa, the friction coefficient of the carbon-containing composition material samples processed in the environment Se-PTFE on ...

Calculating critical temperatures for ferromagnetic order in two-dimensional materials
Magnetic order in two-dimensional (2D) materials is intimately coupled to magnetic anisotropy (MA) since the Mermin-Wagner theorem implies that rotational symmetry cannot be spontaneously broken at finite temperatures in 2D. Large MA thus comprises a key

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Abrasive Wear Characteristics of High-Cr Multicomponent White Cast Irons at Elevated Temperatures
The abrasive wear phenomenon at elevated temperatures is very common in industries where operations are performed under extreme conditions. The occurrence of abrasive wear at high temperatures is typically far more severe than that under room-temperature
