pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A critical review on high temperature performance of sustainable cementitious materials

open access: yesnpj Materials Sustainability
Sustainable concrete materials have gained significant attention due to their potential to reduce CO2 emissions in the construction industry. However, these materials often exhibit distinct physical and chemical properties compared to traditional ...

High temperature superconductors [PDF]

open access: yes
The two principle objectives are to develop materials that superconduct at higher temperatures and to better understand the mechanisms behind high temperature superconductivity.

Superconductivity up to 29 K in SrFe2As2 and BaFe2As2 at high pressures

open access: yes, 2008
We report the discovery of superconductivity at high pressure in SrFe2As2 and BaFe2As2. The superconducting transition temperatures are up to 27 K in SrFe2As2 and 29 K in BaFe2As2, making these the highest pressure-induced superconducting materials ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

High-pressure/high-temperature synthesis of transition metal oxide perovskites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Perovskite and related Ruddlesden-Popper type transition metal oxides synthesised at high pressures and temperatures during the last decade are reviewed. More than 60 such new materials have been reported since 1995.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Synthesis of silicon doped SrMO3 (M=Mn, Co): stabilization of the cubic perovskite and enhancement in conductivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we report the successful incorporation of silicon into SrMO3 (M=Co, Mn) leading to a structural change from a hexagonal to a cubic perovskite.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
