Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Dynamic stability analysis of a fractional calculus-based colon cancer model with therapeutic interventions

open access: yesScientific Reports
Colon cancer is a high-risk malignant tumor worldwide. To address the limited efficacy and overlapping toxicity of current chemoimmunotherapy, this study establishes a fractional-order colon cancer model with a core architecture capturing the probiotics-

Mathematical model for bone mineralization

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2015
Defective bone mineralization has serious clinical manifestations, including deformities and fractures, but the regulation of this extracellular process is not fully understood.

A Mathematical Model Coupling Tumor Growth and Angiogenesis

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
We present a mathematical model for vascular tumor growth. We use phase fields to model cellular growth and reaction-diffusion equations for the dynamics of angiogenic factors and nutrients.

Impact of a senior research thesis on students' perceptions of scientific inquiry in distinct student populations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study addressed how a senior research thesis is perceived by undergraduate students. It assessed students' perception of research skills, epistemological beliefs, and career goals in Biochemistry (science) and BDC (science‐business) students. Completing a thesis improved confidence in research skills, resilience, scientific identity, closed gender‐

A mathematical model of food intake

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2021
The metabolic, hormonal and psychological determinants of the feeding behavior in humans are numerous and complex. A plausible model of the initiation, continuation and cessation of meals taking into account the most relevant such determinants would be ...

Adult‐Onset Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis Presenting With Subacute Cognitive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe the case of a 41‐year‐old man diagnosed with adult‐onset subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). The patient presented with subacute progressive cognitive deficits and a neuropsychological profile indicating predominant frontoparietal dysfunction. MRI showed only mild parietal‐predominant cerebral atrophy.

ON A MATHEMATICAL SECURITY MODEL

open access: yesTransactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2016
A model of system maintenance which ensures secure operation of the system is investigated. To this end, mathematical model of a controlled semi-Markov process with catastrophes is used.

A mathematical dimensionless model for electrohydrodynamics

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2021
In this article, Buckingham’s π-theorem is applied to model electrospinning and electrospraying to find the fiber or particle diameter as a function of Taylor’s cone height, solution’s electrical conductivity, viscosity, surface tension, operating flow ...

Real‐World Performance of CSF Kappa Free Light Chains in the 2024 McDonald Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Kappa free light chains (KFLCs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have a similar performance to CSF‐restricted oligoclonal bands (OCB) for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. To help with implementation, we set out to resolve several remaining uncertainties: (1) performance in a real‐world cohort and the 2024 McDonald criteria; (2 ...
