Of the use of the “English sector” in trigonometry: what amount of mathematical training was necessary in the 18th century? [PDF]
In 1723 Edmund Stone published The construction and principal uses of mathematical instruments, which was essentially a translation from the French of Bion’s Traité de la construction et des principaux usages des instrumens de mathématique (1709).

Real‐World Performance of CSF Kappa Free Light Chains in the 2024 McDonald Criteria
ABSTRACT Objective Kappa free light chains (KFLCs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have a similar performance to CSF‐restricted oligoclonal bands (OCB) for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. To help with implementation, we set out to resolve several remaining uncertainties: (1) performance in a real‐world cohort and the 2024 McDonald criteria; (2 ...

ABSTRACT Objectives WHO grade 4 astrocytomas are associated with poor prognosis, and their prognostic factors remain controversial. This study aimed to identify the prognostic factors and develop a management algorithm for these patients. Methods This study retrospectively included 151 CNS5 adult grade 4 astrocytomas from two medical centers.

For a learnable mathematics in the digital cultures [PDF]
I begin with some general remarks concerning the co-evolution of representational forms and mathematical meanings. I then discuss the changed roles of mathematics and novel representations that emerge from the ubiquity of computational models, and ...

Mathematical practice in textbooks analysis: Praxeological reference models, the case of proportion
We present a new method in textbook analysis, based on so-called praxeological reference models focused on specific content at task level. This method implies that the mathematical contents of a textbook (or textbook part) is analyzed in terms of the ...

Current Tracking Adaptive Control of Brushless DC Motors
In this paper, the current tracking for Brushless Direct Current motors is approached considering uncertainty in the parameters of the motor's model. An adaptive control scheme to compensate electrical parameters uncertainty is proposed without requiring any knowledge of the mechanical parameters.
