Mathematical and numerical analysis of a stratigraphic model [PDF]
In this paper, we consider a multi-lithology diffusion model used in stratigraphic modelling to simulate large scale transport processes of sediments described as a mixture of L lithologies. This model is a simplified one for which the surficial fluxes are proportional to the slope of the topography and to a lithology fraction with unitary diffusion ...

Heterogeneous mathematical models in numerical analysis of structures
AbstractThis paper presents a common approach to the numerical analysis of elasticity and heat conduction problems in computed structures. It is based on a combination of the linear elasticity theory with Timoshenko's shell theory for elasticity problems, and of the classical heat conduction theory with a dimensionally reduced heat conduction model in ...

Conservative stochastic differential equations: Mathematical and numerical analysis [PDF]
We consider stochastic differential equations on the whole Euclidean space possessing a scalar invariant along their solutions. The stochastic dynamics therefore evolves on a hypersurface of the ambient space. Using orthogonal coordinate systems, we show the existence and uniqueness of smooth solutions of the Kolmogorov equation under some ellipticity ...

Raman laser: mathematical and numerical analysis of a model [PDF]
In this paper we study a discrete Raman laser amplification model given as a Lotka-Volterra system. We show that in an ideal situation, the equations can be written as a Poisson system with boundary conditions using a global change of coordinates. We address the questions of existence and uniqueness of a solution.

MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION IN MAGNETIC RECORDING
The head-tape interaction in magnetic recording is described in the literature by a coupled system of partial differential equations. In this paper we study the limit case of the system which reduces the problem to a second order nonlocal equation on a one-dimensional domain.

Mathematical analysis and numerical simulation of a model of morphogenesis
We consider a simple mathematical model of distribution of morphogens (signaling molecules responsible for the differentiation of cells and the creation of tissue patterns). The mathematical model is a particular case of the model proposed by Lander, Nie and Wan in 2006 and similar to the model presented in Lander, Nie, Vargas and Wan 2005.

Mathematical and numerical analysis for a model of growing metastatic tumors [PDF]
In cancer diseases, the appearance of metastases is a very pejorative forecast. Chemotherapies are systemic treatments which aim at the elimination of the micrometastases produced by a primitive tumour. The efficiency of chemotherapies closely depends on the protocols of administration.

Mathematical simulation of osteotomy. Numerical analysis and results
AbstractIn this paper, a model problem of one vital surgical technique in orthopaedics, the so-called osteotomy, will be analyzed numerically. The model problem will be formulated mathematically. The problem leads to solving the variational equality and inequality.

Detailed mathematical and numerical analysis of a dynamo model [PDF]
We investigate the role of nonlinear feedback by α-quenching, flux losses, and feedback by differential rotations in dynamo. Specifically, by studying the nonlinear dynamo model analytically and numerically, we unfold how frequency p of magnetic field, magnetic field strength |B|, and phase φ are influenced by different types of nonlinear feedback in ...

Modeling, Mathematical and Numerical Analysis of Electrorheological Fluids [PDF]
Many electrorheological fluids are suspensions consisting of solid particles and a carrier oil. If such a suspension is exposed to a strong electric field the effective viscosity increases dramatically. In this paper we first derive a model which captures this behaviour.
