Construct Validity of the Mathematics Attitude Scale

Psychological Reports, 1985
A factor analysis of 273 university students' responses to the Mathematics Attitudes Scale was conducted. Four factors (Motivation and Enjoyment, Freedom of Fear, Importance, and Residual Enjoyment) accounted for 59.5% of the total variance. Of the 24 items, 16 loaded on the first factor which accounted for 40.8% of the total variance.

Factor analysis of four Fennema‐Sherman mathematics attitude scales

International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1986
The factorial structure and reliability of four Fennema‐Sherman mathematics attitude scales were investigated. The scales were administered to 204 college students in five mathematics classes and submitted to factor analysis. The scales were found to be reliable but measured three factors instead of four.

Factor analysis and psychometric evaluation of the mathematical modeling attitude scale for teachers of mathematics

Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, 2020
The effective teaching and learning of mathematics through mathematical modeling and connecting mathematics to the real world has gained rapid growth at various educational levels all over the world. The growth in modeling practices in the United States of America (US) and the international community is the result of the development and implementation ...

Two Scales of Attitude toward Mathematics

Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1974
Investigations concerned with the developing and influencing of attitude toward mathematics have dealt almost exclusively with enjoyment of the subject or anxiety in its presence. Although various psychometric procedures have been applied in constructing the measures of attitude employed in such investigations (see Aiken, 1972; Anttonen, 1969; Dutton ...

Turkish Adaptation of Mathematical Modeling Attitude Scale (MMAS)

2022
In this research, it is aimed to adapt the Mathematical Modeling Attitude Scale developed by Asempapa (2019) into Turkish. The survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research, and the sample of the research consists of 88 teachers and 157 teacher candidates determined by appropriate sampling method.

A STUDY ON DEVELOPING ATTITUDE SCALE TOWARDS MATHEMATICS COURSE SUPPORTED BY HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS

2021
The goal of this study is to improve a evaluation tool\rfor measuring secondary school students' attitudes towards\rmathematics course supported by history of mathematics. In this\rdirection, the scale development processes of De Vellis (2016) were\rfollowed.

Using the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitude Scales with lower-primary teachers

Mathematics Education Research Journal, 2016
The Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitude Scales (FSMAS) are among the most popular instruments used in studies of attitudes toward mathematics. However, the FSMAS has been mainly used among student populations and rarely used with teachers. In the present study, three scales from the FSMAS—Confidence, Effectance Motivation, and Anxiety—were revised and

A Construct Validation Study of the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales

Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales were administered to 1541 junior high school students. To investigate the construct validity of the scales, factor analyses were performed on the responses to the 108 items comprising the scales. Additional factor analyses of the scale scores were performed, and a comparison was made with results ...
