Impact of the matrix metalloproteinase MMP-3 on dementia
Neurobiology of Aging, 2007Cerebral accumulation of beta-amyloid peptide (Abeta) is a central event in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Several proteases were shown to hydrolyze Abeta in vitro or in cell-based assays, and are likely candidates for a role in Abeta clearance in brain.

AbstractMatrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‐2 and matrix metalloproteinase‐9 are involved in many illnesses affecting pregnant women, including intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), a serious liver abnormality during pregnancy. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) has been widely reported to inhibit activities of MMP‐2 and MMP‐9. We aimed to investigate

To study the changes of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) expression during congestive heart failure.Using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) assay, we detected MMP-3 and TIMP-1 expression in 31 patients with rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and 8 health subjects. Cardiac

Role of matrix metalloproteinase-3 in neurodegeneration.
Journal of neurochemistry, 2013Matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) is a member of the class of zinc-dependent proteases known to degrade the extracellular matrix. MMP-3 activity is regulated at three different levels: gene expression, proteolytic activation of the zymogen, and inhibition by the endogenous tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase.
