The role of circular RNAs in regulating cytokine signaling in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytokines present in the tumor microenvironment fuel cancer development. Aberrant expression of circRNAs contributes to cancer progression. Cytokines are involved in regulating circRNA biogenesis. Furthermore, aberrantly expressed circRNAs regulate the expression of ligands, receptors, and downstream effectors involved in cytokine signaling to promote ...

Are matrix metalloproteinases the missing link? [PDF]

open access: yesInvertebrate Survival Journal, 2005
It is more and more evident that the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) system is not a characteristic feature of vertebrate animals only, as it can also be found in many invertebrate organisms.

MATRIX METALLOPROTEINASES AND TISSUE INHIBITORS OF MATRIX METALLOPROTEINASES DURING PREGNANCY AND DELIVERY

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica, 2012
Matrix metalloproteinases are main proteolytic enzymes breaking down most components of extracellular matrix of various tissues. In the review shows role of matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases during implantation,

Multifaceted role of Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs)

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2015
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a large family of calcium-dependent zinc-containing endopeptidases, are involved the tissue remodeling and degradation of the extracellular matrix.

Short peptide perturbs spermatogenesis via immune microenvironment dysregulation and mitochondrial imbalance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Matrix metalloproteinases in skin [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental Dermatology, 1997
Abstract Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of zinc‐dependent endopeptidases collectively capable of degrading essentially all extracellular matrix components. These enzymes can be produced by several different types of cells in skin such as fibroblasts, keratinocytes.

Basic fibroblast growth factor mediates carotid plaque instability through metalloproteinase-2 and –9 expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
OBJECTIVE(S): We hypothesized that basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) may exert a role in carotid plaque instability by regulating the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP).

Glycosylation Gene Signatures as Prognostic Biomarkers in Glioblastoma

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive brain tumor characterized by significant heterogeneity. This study investigates the role of glycosylation‐related genes in GBM subtyping, prognosis, and response to therapy. Methods We analyzed mRNA expression data and clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression ...

Matrix metalloproteinases and atherosclerosis

open access: yesPostępy Higieny i Medycyny Doświadczalnej, 2011
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of proteolytic enzymes that degrade extracellular matrix (ECM), seem to have an important role in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Released by inflammatory cells and smooth muscle cells, MMPs regulate the vascular remodeling process.

Matrix metalloproteinases in emphysema [PDF]

open access: yesMatrix Biology, 2018
Several studies have implicated a causative role for specific matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in the development and progression of cigarette smoke-induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and its severe sequela, emphysema. However, the precise function of any given MMP in emphysema remains an unanswered question.
