Matrix rank and communication complexity

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2000
The central notion in communication is a protocol, which is essentially a set of rules specifying the order and the meaning of the messages sent. A protocol can be analyzed in terms of ranks of the submatrices detected as the rounds proceed. The authors present some results and open problems in the area of communication complexity and on the chromatic ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

On the rank of a matrix associated with a graph

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 2004
Let \(X\) be a real symmetric matrix indexed by the vertices of a graph \(G\) such that all its diagonal entries are \(1\), \(X_{ij}= 0\) whenever vertices \(i\), \(j\) are non-adjacent and \(| X_{ij}|\leq 1\) for all other entries of \(X\). Let \(r(G)\) be the minimum possible rank of the matrix \(X\). The author studies relations between \(r(G)\) and

Nonconvex Low Tubal Rank Tensor Minimization

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In the sparse vector recovery problem, the L0-norm can be approximated by a convex function or a nonconvex function to achieve sparse solutions. In the low-rank matrix recovery problem, the nonconvex matrix rank can be replaced by a convex function or a ...

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

RANK OF SUBMATRICES OF THE PASCAL MATRIX

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Sciences: Advances and Applications, 2016
In a previous paper, we derived necessary and sufficient conditions for the invertibility of square submatrices of the Pascal upper triangular matrix. To do so, we established a connection with the two-point Birkhoff interpolation problem. In this paper, we extend this result by deriving a formula for the rank of submatrices of the Pascal matrix.

Matrix inversion by rank annihilation [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Computation, 1966
1. Remarks. The problem of matrix inversion has been extensively explored and a number of methods have been found to solve this problem. However, no one "best" method has been found and the computer programmer must still choose a method which is suited to his particular needs.

Rapid Gradient Descent Method for Low-Rank Matrix Recovery

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we present a rapid gradient descent method for solving low-rank matrix recovery problems. Our method extends the conventional gradient descent framework by exploiting the problem’s unique features to develop an innovative fast gradient ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.
