A one-step procedure has been designed to help the patient with abnormal maxillary anterior alveolar atrophy. The technique combines an anterior maxillary osteotomy with a maxillary vestibuloplasty. Bone grafting and skin grafting are not required, and prosthetic rehabilitation can begin 6 to 8 weeks postoperatively.

Calvarial Bone Grafts in Severe Maxillary Atrophy: Preprosthetic Surgery With Sedation
Implant Dentistry, 2007This is a technique report of cranial bone harvesting for severe maxillary atrophy without general anesthesia.A patient of Class VI by Cawood and Howell underwent 2 extensive bilateral sinus lifts with 5 cortical blocks with sedation only. The reconstruction made possible the placement of 8 Brånemark implants.

Rehabilitation of severe maxillary atrophy with zygomatic implants. Clinical report of four cases
British Dental Journal, 2007Rehabilitation of the severely resorbed maxilla poses a difficult challenge, for both restorative and surgical colleagues, as the typically large maxillary sinuses in this group of patients require extensive bone grafting if root form dental implant placement is considered.

Bone Graft Healing in Reconstruction of Maxillary Atrophy
Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research, 2011ABSTRACTPurpose: Evaluate correlations between volume change for iliac crest bone grafts in maxillary reconstruction (graft volume change [GVC]) and bone mineral density (BMD), bone volume fraction (BVF), hematologic bone metabolic factors (I), and identify indicators of implant failure (II).Material and Methods: Forty‐six consecutive patients had ...
