Evaluation of Various Reinforcements for Maxillofacial Silicone Elastomers
Journal of Biomaterials Applications, 1994Various reinforcements have been evaluated according to their effect on the mechanical properties of a silicone elastomer used for the preparation of maxillofacial prosthetic compositions. Emphasis was given to silica reinforcing fillers since fibrillar reinforcements [e.g., short aramid, glass or high modulus polyethylene (UHMPE)] seemed not to ...

Bonding of maxillofacial silicone elastomers to an acrylic substrate
Dental Materials, 2010To investigate the effect of three different primers on shear and peel bond strengths between three maxillofacial silicone elastomers and an acrylic resin after 360 h of accelerated daylight-aging.Peel and shear-bond strengths of three maxillofacial silicone elastomers (TechSil S25, Cosmesil M511, Cosmesil Z004) to acrylic denture resin bases using ...

Properties of Maxillofacial Silicone Elastomers Reinforced with Silica Powder
Journal of Biomaterials Applications, 1998Compounds of a silicone elastomer suitable for preparing maxillo-facial prostheses, reinforced with various amounts of silica powder, have been studied for their mechanical response and wetting properties in terms of contact angle. Tensile strength and elongation at break showed an increase with increasing silica volume fraction up to 35%, whereas the ...

In Vitro Cytotoxicity of Maxillofacial Silicone Elastomers: Effect of Nano‐particles
Journal of Prosthodontics, 2016AbstractPurposeSilicone elastomers are generally used for maxillofacial extraoral prostheses. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of different kinds of nanoparticles added to two types of maxillofacial elastomers.Materials and MethodsA‐2000 and A‐2006 silicone elastomers were used.

Maxillofacial Silicone Elastomers in Dentistry
2020Maxillofacial prostheses are used for patients with deformities in the maxillofacial area induced by cancer, trauma or congenital defects. Different types of polymers are used in the manufacture of maxillofacial prosthesis. However, silicone elastomers are the polymers most commonly used in the maxillofacial prosthodontics because of their acceptable ...

Changes in appearance of silicone elastomers for maxillofacial prostheses as a result of aging.
The International journal of prosthodontics, 2000The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of certain defined variables on color and opacity of silicone elastomers for maxillofacial prostheses.Three condensation-type and five addition-type silicone elastomers were tested for their changes in color and opacity as a result of aging.

Characterization of maxillofacial silicone elastomer reinforced with different hollow microspheres
Journal of Materials Science, 2015The composition and properties of silicone–hollow microsphere composites were studied in view of establishing a new type of maxillofacial prosthesis material. Two types of microspheres were used in different concentrations and were well dispersed in the silicone matrix. The mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated.
