Colour stability of maxillofacial silicone elastomers: a review of the literature.

The European journal of prosthodontics and restorative dentistry, 2015
Colour degradation is a serious limitation of maxillofacial silicone elastomers and most silicone facial prostheses have to be remade within 1 year due to colour deterioration. A comprehensive review of the literature was completed using MEDLINE and PubMed Library databases. This was supplemented with a manual search of selected journals and textbooks.

Mechanical Evaluation of Boron Nanoparticle‐Modified Silicone Elastomers for Maxillofacial Prostheses

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effects of boron nanoparticles (BNPs) on the mechanical properties of two silicone elastomers, A‐2000 and A‐2006. Tensile, tear, hardness, and elongation tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM and ISO standards.

Adhesion of maxillofacial silicone elastomer to a fiber-reinforced composite resin framework.

The International journal of prosthodontics, 2011
Recently, fiber-reinforced composite resin (FRC) has been introduced as a framework material for maxillofacial silicone prostheses. The purpose of this research was to study the tensile bond strength between a room temperature-polymerized maxillofacial silicone elastomer and a unidirectional FRC.Three different bonding agents were compared.

Accuracy and resolution of conventional and additively manufactured silicone elastomers as applied in maxillofacial therapies

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry
Silicone elastomers are becoming more readily available for additive manufacturing, which may be advantageous for fabricating maxillofacial prostheses. However, the properties of three-dimensionally (3D) printed silicone as compared with conventionally processed silicone have not been well studied. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the ...
