Properties of silicone maxillofacial elastomer processed in stone and metal
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 19801. The effect of mold conditions on the UTS, n, and TS at 200% and 300% elongations, and Shore A hardness was measured for Silastic 44210. 2. There was no difference in n, Shore A hardness, and TS at 200% and 300% elongation between Silastic 44210 samples whether produced in metal or coated stone molds. 3.

In Vitro Cytotoxicity of Maxillofacial Silicone Elastomers: Effect of Nano‐particles
Journal of Prosthodontics, 2016AbstractPurposeSilicone elastomers are generally used for maxillofacial extraoral prostheses. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of different kinds of nanoparticles added to two types of maxillofacial elastomers.Materials and MethodsA‐2000 and A‐2006 silicone elastomers were used.

Maxillofacial Silicone Elastomers in Dentistry
2020Maxillofacial prostheses are used for patients with deformities in the maxillofacial area induced by cancer, trauma or congenital defects. Different types of polymers are used in the manufacture of maxillofacial prosthesis. However, silicone elastomers are the polymers most commonly used in the maxillofacial prosthodontics because of their acceptable ...

In vitro cytotoxicity of maxillofacial silicone elastomers: Effect of accelerated aging
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2008AbstractThe purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of three maxillofacial silicone elastomers at 24, 48, and 72 h on L‐929 cells and to determine the effect of accelerated aging on the cytotoxicity of these silicone elastomers.

Characterization of maxillofacial silicone elastomer reinforced with different hollow microspheres
Journal of Materials Science, 2015The composition and properties of silicone–hollow microsphere composites were studied in view of establishing a new type of maxillofacial prosthesis material. Two types of microspheres were used in different concentrations and were well dispersed in the silicone matrix. The mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated.

Changes in appearance of silicone elastomers for maxillofacial prostheses as a result of aging.
The International journal of prosthodontics, 2000The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of certain defined variables on color and opacity of silicone elastomers for maxillofacial prostheses.Three condensation-type and five addition-type silicone elastomers were tested for their changes in color and opacity as a result of aging.

We evaluated the influence of chemical disinfection and accelerated aging on the dimensional stability and detail reproduction of a silicone elastomer containing an opacifier and/or a pigment. A total of 120 samples were fabricated from Silastic MDX 4-4210 silicone and divided into groups (n = 10) according to pigment and/or opacifier (ceramic powder ...

Little information exists on the biocompatibility of maxillofacial prosthetic materials. Cosmesil material is a purpose-designed facial prosthetic elastomer that has an established clinical profile in humans but results of biocompatibility testing have not been published. Cosmesil, acrylic resin (positive control), black surgical gutta-percha (negative
