The Latent Maximum Entropy Principle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present an extension to Jaynes’ maximum entropy principle that incorporates latent variables. The principle of latent maximum entropy we propose is different from both Jaynes’ maximum entropy principle and maximum likelihood estimation, but can yield ...

Temporal Interference Stimulation of Centromedian‐Parafascicular Complex in Disorders of Consciousness: A Pilot Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Treatment of disorders of consciousness (DoC) remains a major clinical challenge, and noninvasive, targeted modulation of deep brain structures has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility/safety and preliminary effects of thalamic temporal interference stimulation (TIS) targeting centromedian‐

A stochastic production frontier model with a translog specification using the generalized maximum entropy estimator [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, an empirical application of the generalized maximum entropy estimator in a stochastic production frontier model with a translog specification is discussed to investigate technical efficiency in a wine region of Portugal.

Understanding the Burden of Orofacial Involvement and Patient Treatment Preferences in Systemic Sclerosis: Results From a Large International Survey

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Orofacial manifestations are significantly impactful in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) yet remain understudied, with no dedicated clinical guidelines to inform their management. Methods An international online survey comprised38 questions addressing orofacial manifestations of SSc, including patients’ confidence in their treating ...

Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics and Scale Invariance

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
A variant of continuous nonequilibrium thermodynamic theory based on the postulate of the scale invariance of the local relation between generalized fluxes and forces is proposed here.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Scaling Relations of Lognormal Type Growth Process with an Extremal Principle of Entropy

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
The scale, inflexion point and maximum point are important scaling parameters for studying growth phenomena with a size following the lognormal function.

The Latent Maximum Entropy Principle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present an extension of Jaynes\u27 maximum entropy principle to handle latent variables. We use an EM algorithm that incorporates nested iterative scaling to approximately calculate maximum entropy solutions for this principle, and give a proof of its

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for
