Maximum-Likelihood Estimation of Relatedness

open access: yesGenetics, 2003
Abstract Relatedness between individuals is central to many studies in genetics and population biology. A variety of estimators have been developed to enable molecular marker data to quantify relatedness. Despite this, no effort has been given to characterize the traditional maximum-likelihood estimator in relation to the remainder. This

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Quasi-maximum likelihood estimator of Laplace (1, 1) for GARCH models

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2017
This paper studies the quasi-maximum likelihood estimator (QMLE) for the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (GARCH) model based on the Laplace (1,1) residuals.

A Microeconomic Interpretation of the Maximum Entropy Estimator of Multinomial Logit Models and Its Equivalence to the Maximum Likelihood Estimator

open access: yesEntropy, 2010
Maximum entropy models are often used to describe supply and demand behavior in urban transportation and land use systems. However, they have been criticized for not representing behavioral rules of system agents and because their parameters seems to ...

Estimating parameters of factor analysis model maximum likelihood method)) by using EM algorithm with application [PDF]

open access: yesمجلة التربية والعلم, 2009
Expectation maximization algorithm (EM) is used to create estimator with the same qualities of maximum likelihood Estimator taking into consideration the existence of two types of data, Data viewing (observed data) and hidden data (missing data), in this

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

A Method of Maximum-Likelihood Estimation

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1961
SUMMARY Knowledge of one or more of the parameters in a maximum-likelihood problem sometimes results in a very considerable simplification, the analysis becoming almost trivial. A method of obtaining maximum-likelihood estimates and their asymptotic covariance matrix is given which makes it possible to capitalize on simplifications of ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The breakdown behavior of the maximum likelihood estimator in the logistic regression model. [PDF]

open access: yes
: In this note we discuss the breakdown behavior of the Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimator in the logistic regression model. We formally prove that the ML-estimator never explodes to infinity, but rather breaks down to zero when adding severe outliers to ...
