"Empirical Likelihood Methods in Econometrics: Theory and Practice" [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent developments in empirical likelihood (EL) methods are reviewed. First, to put the method inperspective, two interpretations of empirical likelihood are presented, one as a nonparametric maximum likelihood estimation method (NPMLE) and the other as

Bias-Corrected Maximum Likelihood Estimation for the Process Performance Index using Inverse Gaussian Distribution

open access: yes, 2023
An analytical bias-corrected maximum likelihood estimation procedure and a bootstrap bias-corrected maximum likelihood estimation procedure are proposed for the inverse Gaussian distribution (IGD) to obtain more reliable maximum likelihood estimates ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Maximum kernel likelihood estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We introduce an estimator for the population mean based on maximizing likelihoods formed by parameterizing a kernel density estimate. Due to these origins, we have dubbed the estimator the maximum kernel likelihood estimate (mkle). A speedy computational

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Likelihood inference for small variance components

open access: yes, 2000
In this paper, we develop likelihood-based methods for making inferences about the components of variance in a general normal mixed linear model. In particular, we use local asymptotic approximations to construct confidence intervals for the components ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

An Optimized-Hierarchy-Aided Maximum Likelihood Detector for MIMO-OFDM

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper we propose a novel low-complexity Maximum Likelihood (ML) space-time detection method, which can be regarded as an advanced extension of the Complex Sphere Decoder (CSD).

Fluctuations in method-of-moments variograms caused by clustered sampling and their elimination by declustering and residual maximum likelihood estimation

open access: yes, 2013
Soil data accumulated in national and regional archives derive from many sources and tend to be concentrated in zones of particular interest. Experimental variograms computed from such data by the usual method of moments can appear highly erratic, and ...
