Building and Sustaining Patient Engagement Infrastructure Focused on Overdose Prevention Within a US Veterans Affairs National Research Network

open access: yesHealth Expectations, Volume 29, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has funded intramural research for over 100 years. A growing number of research funders, including VA, have placed an increasing emphasis on engaging patients in the research process and have invested in engagement infrastructure; however, few accounts are available that detail that ...

Early‐Life Antecedents of Distrust and Social Isolation in Adolescence: A Large‐Scale, Exploratory Analysis of the UK's Millennium Cohort Study

open access: yesSocial Development, Volume 35, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Adolescence is a period when interpersonal distrust and perceived social isolation become significant risk factors for adverse psychosocial outcomes. However, there is limited longitudinal evidence quantifying the relative importance of early‐life antecedents of these risk factors.

Postfrontal Deep Convection Over the Southern Ocean and Orographic Precipitation Enhancement Over Tasmania

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract The orographic precipitation enhancement (OPE) generated within wintertime post‐frontal air masses is a prominent climate feature of Tasmania. This study investigates a passage of a cold sector of a mid‐latitude cyclone over the Southern Ocean (SO) and Western Tasmania (WTAS) observed from 2100 UTC 11 July to 0300 UTC 13 July.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 14, 22 July 2026.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

First EarthCARE CPR Observations of Dynamics–Microphysics Coupling in Marine Cold‐Air Outbreak Clouds

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Marine cold‐air outbreak (MCAO) clouds begin as shallow cloud streets near the ice edge and evolve into broken open‐cell convection downstream. Their rapid transitions in cloud structure and microphysics are closely linked to vertical motions, but this interplay has not previously been observed from space. The EarthCARE satellite, carrying the
